Hello, I’m Ailsa, a traditional artist from Warwickshire, England. I’m a mother of three beautiful children. I’m also a huge animal lover with a labrador and three cats – all in black of course!

From 2003-2005 I studied art GCSE at school as it was an escape for me, I didn’t see any potential in myself becoming an artist, particularly because I was badly bullied throughout secondary school, with my entire portfolio of coursework being destroyed by other students. Despite this, I still managed to get an A* based solely on my exam. However, the whole experience put me off drawing for a while.

After school, I explored various creative careers while drawing in my spare time due to my artistic inclination.

In 2018 I studied makeup artistry for television and film at Delamar Academy, which is what ignited my interest for macabre themes, as before this venture, my art was mostly still life - with not a drop of blood in sight! I wanted a way to incorporate SFX and gore within my art and so a new exploration was born.

I no longer work as a makeup artist, however I honestly feel if I hadn’t done that, my art wouldn’t be what it is today. I’m incredibly grateful to those who put their faith in me and supported my decision to create art instead. I now love to explore difficult topics and ideas of the human experience through macabre and morbid curiosities. My partner has also been a huge inspiration - he is a big part of the reason for the art I create.

I enjoy experimenting with a variety of mediums but my favourite medium to work with has to be paint - it feels like it harnesses my inner child and spirit in the way it flows and almost has a mind of it's own, it behaves the same way as the blood in my veins. I find it slightly poetic, that in a way, human beings are living, breathing paintings. When we paint, we leave a part of our body and soul in this realm.

I really feel as though my art pieces are extensions of myself, so a huge inspiration for me to create is my children. I want to make them proud but also, I want to leave parts of me behind so I will always be with them, even when I’m gone.

Thank you for taking to time to read this,  I'm so grateful that we get to exist at the same time.

I look forward to our paths crossing!
